Poodles are a type of dog that can come in various sizes and colors, but all have a distinct thick and curly coat of hair. Poodles are one of the most easily recognizable dog breeds and are very popular. Originally bred in Germany to be hunting dogs that would retrieve ducks, poodles are incredibly athletic and intelligent animals. They have a lot of energy and need frequent exercise no matter what size they are.
There are three main sizes of poodles. The smallest, the Toy Poodle, is no more than 10 inches tall and weighs between 4-6 pounds. The middle, the Miniature Poodle, is between 10-15 inches tall and weighs between 10-15 pounds. The largest, the Standard Poodle, is over 15 inches tall and depending on whether it is male or female weighs 60-70 or 40-50 pounds respectively.
Poodles need 1-2 hours of exercise every day. They are lively and spry animals that have lots of energy. Poodles enjoy all kinds of outdoor activities, including walks, runs, swimming, and games of fetch.
Poodles have a life expectancy of 10-18 years no matter the size. They are generally considered very healthy animals and have few major health issues. They make excellent long-term companions.
